Video sizes for Reels, TikTok and Shorts

The sizes a shop actually needs, in one table. No sign-up, no email.

A vertical video ad is 1080×1920 pixels, a 9:16 ratio. That single size covers Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Square (1080×1080) and portrait (1080×1350) are for feed posts, where a taller frame takes more screen but gets cropped in the grid preview. Anything wider than 9:16 will be letterboxed on a phone, which wastes the part of the screen that sells.

Where it goesRatioPixelsWhat to know
Reels · TikTok · Shorts9:161080 × 1920The default for a product ad. Fills a phone screen edge to edge.
Instagram feed · square1:11080 × 1080Safe in the profile grid: nothing gets cropped away.
Instagram feed · portrait4:51080 × 1350Takes more screen than square in the feed, but the grid preview crops it to a square.
YouTube · website16:91920 × 1080Letterboxed on a phone. Use it for a site header, not for social.

How long should it be

For a single product, eight seconds is enough to show the piece and hold attention. Sixteen seconds works when you want two distinct looks — a wide shot then a macro. Longer than that and the viewer scrolls before the product registers.

Keep the product away from the edges

Platforms lay their own interface over the video: the caption and buttons sit along the bottom, the account name along the top. Keep the product inside the middle 80% of the frame and nothing important gets covered.
